About St Helen’s

"Choosing the right school for your child is vitally important.  We all want the very best of education for our children, but we also want our children to be safe, happy, feel secure and enjoy learning.  At St Helen's we believe we can offer all of these things.  We pride ourselves on our academic results, but we are equally proud of the atmosphere, friendliness and co-operation, which is always evident in school.

Staff work very hard with children, governors, parents and the community to develop an environment in which everyone can develop their talents and affirm their dignity and worth.  We really do value our pupils and believe that their time in the school should be happy, rewarding and fulfilling."      Tim Crosse Head Teacher

New Curriculum

St Helen's are fully funding the Foundation Phase in order to provide a pupil teacher ratio of 1:8 both in the nursery and reception classes.  We are also pleased to have full time Learning Support Assistance in each of the Key Stage One classes as well as two full time Learning Support Assistants for Key Stage Two

A new curriculum has also been introduced in Key Stage Two across Wales.  We see these changes as a positive move which supports our philosophy of making learning fun and exciting.  The new initiatives also support the notion that children can learn in lots of different environments both inside and outside the classroom.

Some of the enriching lessons the children look forward to are...

  • Forest School - Children enjoy a variety of Forest School Activities, including toasting marshmallows around a bonfire.

  • Messy Mondays - Key Stage 1 - All of the children will participate in 'Messy Monday' every week.  Teachers plan a range of outdoor activities - the children go outside regardless of the weather!

  • Freaky Fridays - Key Stage 1 -  All the children take part in fun activities (that they plan themselves) each Friday afternoon.  We ask that each child contributes 50p each week to help with the cost. Freaky Friday always involves lots of cooking and fun craft activities.
